According to sources, Fatima and her husband Mir Muhammad Mahar of Nuhundi village near Ghotki went to Jaisalmer in Rajasthan to visit her ailing father three months ago.

Their visa was originally for one-and-a-half months but later extended by another month when Fatima’s father suddenly passed away. Fatima was seven months pregnant when she came to India. On April 14 she gave birth to a baby boy at a private hospital.

When the parents tried to return to Pakistan, the Indian authorities reportedly refused to allow the family to cross the border as the child's name did not figure on the parents' passport.

The family is now waiting for a visa for their infant.
