Jammu: Pakistani prisoners in high security Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu have gone on 'fast' protesting the death of Sanaullah Ranjay at a hospital in Chandigarh on Thursday.

Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay dies

"Pakistani prisoners here (in the jail) have not taken food in afternoon...we are pursuing them," an officer of the state Prisons department said.

“There are 22 Pakistani prisoners in Kot Bhalwal Jail. They are upset over the death of Sanaullah," he added.

Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay, who was admitted to a Chandigarh hospital after being attacked in a Jammu jail last week, died on Thursday morning. He was serving life imprisonment at Jammu's Kot Bhalwal Jail. He was attacked on last Friday by an Indian prisoner and then he was flown from Jammu to Chandigarh for treatment. The incident took place a day after Sarabjit Singh, an Indian prisoner in Pakistan, succumbed to grievous injuries sustained in a murderous assault on him in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail.
