“Pakistani troops fired on Indian forward posts with small arms and automatic weapons along the LoC in the Poonch area around 7:00 am on Saturday,” Defence Spokesperson Col R K Palta said, adding that no casualty was reported.

“Indian troops guarding the border line retaliated strongly, triggering exchanges which continued till 7:40 am. However, there was no loss of life or injuries to any trooper in the firing,” he added.

The Pakistani troops have been daily resorting to ceasefire violations since August six when its special forces killed five Indian soldiers in Poonch.

There have been over 80 ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops this year from January 1.

Defence Minister A K Antony had recently stated that the Army has been given a free hand to retaliate and deal with the violations on Line of Control.
