Srinagar: With the Panchayat elections round the corner, terrorist groups like Lashkar-e-Toiba and Hizbul Mujahideen have become quite active. They have warned the people to stay away from the elections or be prepared to face any consequences. The Panchayat elections are scheduled in the state on April 13.

Several posters issued by LeT and Hizbul Mujahideen were found in different parts of districts including like Sopore, Bandipora and Shopian. In the posters people have been urged not to vote in the name of religion and those who will vote will not be spared as they would be considered traitors in the eyes of Islam.

Therefore, only six people contested in place of 30, in the Koymu block of Anantnag district, where the Panch and Sarpanch were elected unanimously.

Separatists expected that people will not be interested in the Panchayat elections, but with the ongoing preparations, it can be seen that the state is gearing up for the elections again.
All Party Hurriyat Conference along with the separatists has already issued a notification stating that the people who will vote will be considered traitors.

But, when the terrorist organisations saw that the people were not paying any heed, in spite of regular warnings, they started threatening people openly.

An officer of the state police, on the condition of anonymity mentioned, terrorist groups are already at a loss after the participation of common man in the polls. And now after seeing people’s interest in the Panchayat elections, they are desperate.

He further said, “Although the areas have been fortified, total control of the situation is impossible as civilians are always the soft targets”.

We have also issued an advisory with immediate effect, he added.
