Bijnor: In a bid to eradicate illegal liquor business, Panchayat has taken initiative to lay norms banning hooch’s sales. A penalty of Rs 5000 was fixed, if caught red handed and incentive of Rs 500 for providing information regarding the malpractices in liquor sales. A 17-member committee has been formulated to implement the norms.

Panchayat was held at the residence of village head Nishu Devi. Sanjeev Kumar, husband of Nishu, informed that production and selling of raw alcohol is prevalent in the village and decision was unanimously taken to ban the illegal sale of liquor.

President of the committee, Mehar Singh, said, “We will keep an eye on the issue and run a campaign to create awareness.”

“A copy of the decision taken to this effect by the committee will be sent to DM, SDM of Chandpur, Circle Officer, concerned police station and the Excise Department,” said Sanjeev Kumar.

Excise Inspector Anurag Mishra said, “This has come to my knowledge and it’s a good initiative.”
