Chandigarh: In an interesting development, an RTI application filed in the Panjab University show that the name of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is missing from the list of the University which records the name of people who were awarded with an honorary doctorate.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is an ex-student of the University and he was awarded with an honorary Doctorate of Law degree in a glittering function in 2009.
The information of Manmohan’s name missing from the list was revealed in reply to the plea filed by RTI activist Rajinder K Singla. 

As per the records, the University has so far awarded Doctorate of Law degree to 25 people, including the country's first home minister Vallabhbhai Patel (1949), former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi (1973), former Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral (1999) and Union Minister Kapil Sibal (2006), among others.

Manmohan Singh was a student at the University in the 1950s and later joined the Department of Economics here. He went on to become a Professor in the department at the young age of 32.
