Ranchi: After being reprimanded by Home Minister P Chidambaram for not taking action against Naxalites in Jharkhand, the state government faced wrath of Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh over the issue.

Jairam has indirectly accused the state government of conniving with the Naxalites. He also said that a parallel government is being run by the Naxalites in 17 of the 24 districts in Jharkhand.

While targeting the Arjun Munda government, he said, “If a political party supports Maoists for political gains, it will back fire. There should not be any compromise with with Maoists in any case.”

“I have visited Jharkhand five times in six months. When I reached the remote area of Saranda I got tears in my eyes after seeing their situation”, the Union Minister said.

He further said that the Jharkhand government has shown a slowdown in the implementation of MNREGA. Minister of Tribal affairs has also written a letter to the state government saying that he is not satisfied.

MNREGA will not work if Gram Panchayats are not strengthened. The state government always demands decentralisation of power but shies away from giving the rights to the people.
