Ghaziabad: The parents of a two-month-old ailing baby girl were arrested on Thursday for allegedly attempting to bury alive the infant at the behest of a tantrik in Pilakhuwa town, 20 km from here, police said on Thursday.

Dinesh, a labourer, and his wife, Deepa, allegedly tried to bury their ailing infant on Thursday after a tantrik advised them that the act would bring prosperity and wealth to their family.

On hearing the infant's cries, the couple's neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued the child and informed the police.

The duo, along with another relative who helped them, has been arrested, a senior police officer said, adding that a hunt has been launched for the absconding tantrik.

The baby has been sent to a child protection house in Meerut, he said.
