New Delhi: Even as the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh assured that the states would be consulted before taking next step on the formation of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has said that he would oppose the NCTC by reiterating that this will infringe on the powers of the state governments.

The Chief Minister was speaking to media after a meeting with Union Home Minister P Chidambaram here.

Demanding a review of the Constitution to define the roles of Central and state governments, Badal accused ruling establishment of attacking the federal structure of the country in a systematic manner.

The government has convened a meeting of all Chief Ministers on April 16 to discuss the contentious NCTC issue including internal security concerns.

Notably, amendments moved by the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha over NCTC were defeated on Monday and Tuesday respectively.
