Delhi: 7-fold hike in parking fee likely

New Delhi: The parking charges will get seven times dearer if the proposals put forward by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation are taken into consideration. The corporation has also proposed doubling of property tax.

The proposal made by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation in its first budget will be applicable to both the residential as well as commercial parking. Municipal Commissioner PK Gupta while presenting the budget said that considering the continuous price rise the hike was inevitable.

However, the proposal has been rejected by the Yogender Chandolia, standing committee chairperson of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Chandolia said that no proposal affecting the common man will be accepted by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

According to the proposal, parking fee will now be collected on hour basis. As per the new proposal, car owners will have to shell out Rs 20 for the first one hour instead of Rs10 for the first 10 hours at present. Thereafter, Rs 50 will be charged for up to six hours. Further, Rs 75 will be charged for 12 hours.

Similarly for bike and scooter, Rs 10 will be charged for first one hour, Rs 20 for next five hours and Rs 60 for another five hours.
