New Delhi, Jan28(Agencies): Parliamentarians on Friday remembered late freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai on his 146th birth anniversary.
Leader of the Lok Sabha and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurseed led the parliamentarians in paying floral tributes at the portrait of Rai in the Central Hall of Parliament House.
Secretaries-General of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha,TK Viswanathan and V K Agnihotri respectively offered floral tributes to him.
A portrait of Rai was unveiled by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in the Central Hall of Parliament on November 17,1956.
Popularly known as Punjab Kesari (The Lion of Punjab),Rai also was a founder of the Punjab National Bank.

Rai along with Bal GangadharTilak and Bipin Chandra Pal formed the trinity--Lal,Bal, Pal of the freedom movement.

They advocated the swadeshi movement and led the boycott of all imported goods in the early 1900s.
Born on January 28,1965 in Punjab, Rai breathed his last on November 17,1928 after he  wasl athi charged by the British Police when he was leading a procession to oppose the Simon Commission 's visit to study constitutional reforms in India,
