New Delhi: Miffed over the incidents of Dalit harassment in Gujarat, Lok Janshakti Party supremo Ram Vilas Paswan has urged the Union Government to step into the matter. In a meeting with the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday, Paswan called for a CBI investigation in a case of Dalit exploitation in the Banaskantha district of Gujarat.

Few days back, Paswan had raised the issue of police atrocities against minorities in Araria district of Bihar. Taking up the issue of Dalits at Gujarat, Paswan has called for stringent measures from the Centre to prevent any further atrocities on them.

In the meeting, he informed the Home Minister that no action has been yet initiated to provide justice to Dalits who were harassed in Banaskantha district of Gujarat around two year back. Taking in account the laid back attitude of Gujarat government in case, he has requested for a CBI investigation into the matter. Paswan also raised the demand for Rs 20 lakh compensation to family members of those who were killed in the violence.

Paswan alleged the acts of Dalit harassment were on the rise in Gujarat. He did not fail to mention that Dalits were being denied of justice in the state.
