Modi had also claimed that Patel had visited him after he became the Chief Minister of Gujarat – a claim that the Congress leader strongly refutes.

“I will quit public life, if Modi can prove I went to his house since he became the chief minister of Gujarat," Ahmed Patel told a leading news channel while reacting to Modi's interview, which was edited by DD.

Patel also denied being friends with Modi and taking any favours from the Gujarat Chief Minister.

Taking an apparent dig at Modi by using senior BJP leader LK Advani’s reference, Patel said, “If he can't even invite Advaniji for a meal, how can he invite me?”

Meanwhile, in his comments to another leading television channel on Friday, Patel branded the remarks made by Modi about him in his television interview with Doordarshan as baseless and ridiculous.

A colossal political storm had erupted after Doordarshan had edited parts of its interview with Modi in Gandhinagar.

Modi’s comments about Priyanka Gandhi and Patel were allegedly omitted by Doordarshan with the BJP cried foul play by the UPA government in this matter.

However, all the allegations were disproved by the government and Doordarshan.

"Ahmedbhai is among the best friends I have in Congress but not now ... I had a good friendship with him and would have preferred that it had remained so ... but he now runs away from me and doesn't take my calls," Modi had said in the interview.

An unedited version of the entire interview was posted on the Gujarat Chief Minister’s website as it is believed the whole interview was recorded separately by the Gujarat government for their perusal.
