Patna: Patna High Court on Thursday granted bail to former Siwan MP Mohammed Shahabuddin in a murder case.

However, the bail would bring no relief for the jailed RJD leader because he is serving life imprisonment in several other cases.
A bench of justice Sheema Ali Khan allowed him bail in a 12-year-old murder case for want of maintainable evidence.

On July 17, 1998 an FIR was registered against Shahabuddin in connection with murder of Yogendra Pandey. After investigation, police had given him clean chit which was also accepted by a CJM court.

In 2007, the case was handed to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) which had filed a charge sheet against the MP on November 3 last year.

During the court trail Shahabuddin’s advocate Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Humayun Ahmed Khan and Ashutosh Kumar argued that it is wrong to reopen the case when it had been closed after investigation.

They said that investigation cannot be held in perpetuity. On the other hand the bail plea was strongly opposed by public prosecutor Shyameshwar Dayal.
