Patna: The Patna High Court upheld a lower court’s decision and directed for seizure of assets of IAS officer SS Verma.

The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) had registered a case on the charges of disproportionate assets against Verma after 9 kg gold was recovered from his locker.

A single bench of Justice Dharnidhar Jha on Friday said he did not find any error with the lower court’s decision. However, relatives of Verma had challenged that the wealth recovered belonged to them.

Verma, who was serving as Secretary in the Minor Irrigation Department, has been accused of acquiring illegal assets to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore.

As per the Special Courts Act, Verma will face action under the Indian Penal Code and his assets will be seized as per the confiscation of the property law, which is only implemented in Bihar.
