Patna: Amid the ongoing controversy over the location of Central University in Bihar, the Patna University has once again initiated a fresh move demanding central university status.

According to university officials, a proposal in this regard, duly approved by various statutory bodies of the university will be submitted to the Central government soon.

According to sources, university vice-chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh had held talks with Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal and chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on HRD, Oscar Fernandez.

Being the seventh oldest university of the country, Patna University fulfils all the basic criteria required for a central university.

The university officials claimed that the fresh claim has nothing to do with the upcoming new central university in Bihar.
