New Delhi: In what could leave Jammu & Kashmir People’s Democratic Party Chief (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti red-faced, an official transcript shows that she did praise Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi at the National Integration Council (NIC) meet last September.

The Union Home Ministry on Sunday released the transcript of the NIC meet which confirms that the PDP chief had praised Modi for his approach to investment proposals.

Mufti’s purported comment at the NIC meeting first came in public domain when senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj mentioned that even Mehbooba had praised Modi at the NIC meeting. Sushma’s claim came during Modi’s Sadhbhavna fast in Ahmedabad.

At that time, Mehbooba described Sushma’s claim as baseless and untrue.

According to the documents released by the Home Ministry, Mehbooba during the NIC September 10 meeting had praised Modi by saying, “Once I met Chennai-based Muslim businessman. He told me that he had gone to meet Narendra Modi for some business deal and was surprised after meeting him. Modi’s officers didn’t take even ten minutes to complete his work, he got his job done.”

Mehbooba had further said, “There is a need to take such kind of steps to bring Muslims and minorities in the main streamline.”

The documents appear to counter the denials by Mehbooba who had asked the Ministry to release the complete transcript of her speech at NIC meeting.
