The Sarpanch has been identified as 45-year-old Mohammad Amin Pandit. It is reported that his father too was targeted by the terrorists in the past.

According to sources, the gunmen barged into Pandit’s house and took him away on gun point. They then shot him dead near Iddgah, some 50 yards from his house.

After the gunmen vanished into the neighbourhood, Pandit was rushed to a local hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

The incident is likely to affect the voter turnout in the polling for Anantnag Lok Sabha seat set to take place on April 24.

This is not the first attack on a village head. Seven village heads have reportedly been gunned down by terrorists in the past.
