Raipur: Chhattisgarh government has hiked bus fares by 10-35 percent causing much discomfort to the people of the state. A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting held on Monday which was presided by the Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh. However, new bus fares would be applicable after a government notification is issued in this regard.

Now people of the state will have to shell out Rs 111 in place of Rs 97 for travelling from the state capital Raipur to Kanker while they will have to spend Rs 230 for travelling down to Jagdalpur from here. Also bus fare to Gariaband from Raipur has been increased to Rs 67 from Rs 61.

Apart from this, people will now have to shell out Rs 88 for travelling to Bilaspur while they will have to spend Rs 10 more on their travel to Saraipali. Apart from this, the bus fare of Ambikapur has also been increased to Rs 262 from Rs 241.

Remarkably, private bus owners had started putting pressure on the state government for increasing fares after the diesel price was hiked in the country. They even met the Transport Minister as well as Additional Transport Commissioner requesting action. A proposal in this regard was also put during the state cabinet meeting and was given a green signal after proper discussion.

The state cabinet decided to increase bus fares to Rs 5 for first five kilometer from Rs 3. It has also increased the fares of ordinary night bus services by 15 percent
Fares of deluxe sleeper coaches have been hiked by 20 percent while deluxe super bus fares have gone up by 5 percent.
