Ranchi: Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh on Sunday expressed his desire that he should be cremated in Saranda and be christened as Jairam Ramesh Munda.

Jairam Ramesh expressed this unusual wish in Saranda, an erstwhile Naxal bastion, after hoisting flag on Republic day.

This was the first occasion in the 12-year-long history of Jharkhand when a political leader hoisted flag in a democratic manner. Jairam Ramesh said that he has so far visited the area six times and Saranda has become his second home.

Communicating to each and every individual to listen to their grievances, Jairam asked the Mukhiya of Digha village if his community would allow his last rites to be performed in the village.

Jairam said that Saranda is coming back to track and the Centre has kept all the options open for development in these areas.
