New Delhi: Former Uttar Pradesh Home Secretary Jagannath Singh filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking rejection of Special Development Zone (SDZ) Policy that was brought into effect by Mayawati government in 2007.

He also challenged the provisions of the SDZ policy under which the land allottees were exempted from tax.

Singh in his petition has clearly mentioned that the Uttar Pradesh government on December 29, 2007 declared the SDZ policy which was neither passed in the state assembly nor approved by the authorized committee. Besides, the Yamuna Express Way Development Authority has not yet prepared master plan for the SZD.

He alleged that any kind of real estate development without a master plan is termed as illegal.

It needs to be mentioned that Jaypee Sports International Limited was allotted land in Yamuna Expressway for the construction of F1 race track.  Earlier this year, F1 Grand Prix was organised with much fanfare. The state government also exempted entertainment tax on it. The issue of waiving off tax is still lying pending in the Apex Court.

On December 2, a bench comprising Justice DK Jain  and Anil R Dev had directed to hear the petition on SDZ policy along with the F1 entertainment tax exemption issue.
