Chandigarh: Facing a series of corruption charges against its ministers in the state, Punjab BJP is up for more embarrassment as a petition has been filed against Local Bodies Minister Tikshan Sud in the High Court accusing him of swindling public money during his tenure as Forest and Wildlife Minister.

The petition has been filed on the basis of the letter written by Ludhiana Range Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) RR Kakkar to Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal.

The petitioner has alleged Sud of misusing funds meant for afforestation and preservation of forest. It has been alleged that lakhs of trees in forest land were illegally felled by Sud when he was Forest and Wildlife Minister.

The petitioner highlighted that government failed to act against the minister despite serious charges leveled against him.
Hearing the petition, the High Court said that it should be ascertained whether the petition have been filed due to personal grudge or has some merit.

The High Court also noticed the government seeking reply on the action taken on the complaint.
The petition has been listed for hearing on July 8.
