Captain Saurabh Kalia
A name that perhaps defines heroism in our nation – Captain Saurabh Kalia didn’t hesitate a bit before laying his life for his mother land during the 1999 Kargil war.
Even the goriest of tortures by the Pakistani troops after he was held as a prisoner of war could not break this 23-year old, then, before he gleefully accepted martyrdom. His brutally mutilated body, which was beyond recognition, was returned three weeks later.
He was on a patrol duty in the Batalik sector where he along with five other Army soldiers was captured by Pakistani forces.
