New Delhi: The Supreme Court is yet to announce its decision on the nationwide strike called by the Indian Medical Association on June 25.

The Joint bench of Justice HL Gokhale and Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai was expected to hear the single writ petition (PIL) on Friday filed by an NGO ‘People for Better Treatment’. However, Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai recused herself from hearing the case filed by the NGO.

The matter will now be listed before another bench. The NGO had filed a petition for a stay on the doctors’ strike.

The IMA is protesting against clinical establishment act 2010 and the bachelor of rural healthcare course made compulsory for doctors.

The IMA’s call for an unprecedented nationwide doctors’ strike on June 25 is likely to cripple the hospital services which may possibly lead to loss of several human lives across India. Those undergoing treatment in government hospitals will be the worst hit victims.
