Mumbai: Demanding a CBI probe into the July 13 serial blasts in Mumbai, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Bombay High Court on Monday.

The PIL has been filed when the Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Sunday put it on record that it’s not in favour of handing over the probe to any other agency than the Mumbai Police as that would dampen the morale of the city police.

The PIL was filed by advocate V P Patil who contended that the serial bomb blasts were an attack on the nation. Hence, a Central agency like CBI must take over the probe.
At present, a joint investigation into the serial blasts which took 19 lives and left 130 people injured is being conducted by the Anti Terror Squad (ATS) and Crime Branch of the Mumbai Police.

Notably, two cases of terror attacks have been transferred to the CBI till date. One is March 13, 1993 Mumbai serial blasts and the second is Malegaon blast on September 29, 2006.
