Kolkata: Following the political uproar over restriction of English newspapers in public libraries, a Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the High Court here on Thursday.

Citing the decision as unethical, Kolkata High Court Lawyer Vasavi Raichaudhary filed a petition against the orders of the government.

Justifying the move, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the matter is blown out of proportion and she will thwart any attempt to discredit her image. Some newspapers are raising this issue due to their business interests. There is nothing wrong in the judgement, she said.

Following protest from different corners, the state government added a Nepal daily Himalaya Darpan and an Urdu paper Kalam in the libraray list on Thursday.

Now, the library will have a collection of 13 newspapers.
