New Delhi: In order to evaluate the exact power scenario in the country, Planning Commission’s Working Group on Power has recommended the formation of nine sub-groups for the 12th five year plan. These sub-groups will estimate the electricity demand, making of national grid and electrification of rural areas as per the 12th five year plan.

In its first meeting headed by Secretary of Electricity Department on Wednesday, the working group on power has defined the work-responsibility of these sub- groups.

The working group on power formed last month includes representatives of electricity industry and of all sectors associated with power industry like coal, petroleum, atomic energy, Science and Technique. The group is expected to submit the report on electricity scenario by September this year.

The sub-group headed by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has been instructed to analyze the power demand in 12th five year plan and prepare the plan for electricity generation. This sub-group will also review the target of electricity production and its achievement during the 11th five year plan.

Another sub-group will plan grid construction for electricity transmission in the country.
Third sub-group headed by Rural Electrification Corporation will draft the plans for providing electricity in rural areas. Simultaneously, it will also review the targets which were set for 11th five year plan.
