Ranchi: The National Games tennis matches, which started on Monday, had no referees to officiate the games. The players had to take the umpiring seat themselves.

From ball-boys to scorers to volunteers, everyone one was conspicuous by their absence. The players had to perform all functions on their own.

The explanation by the organizers was even more shocking. They said that the problem was only limited to the first round. They added that the players who would be eliminated in the first round will be directed to officiate during other games.

The organizers prepared the Centre Court on the lines of the one in Chennai but the officials to operate the electronic score board have not been appointed yet. The organizing committee has applied the technique of letting the players do the off-court jobs like keeping score.
