The project by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) was built at an estimated cost of Rs 2290 crore.

The Prime Minister dedicated the power project to the nation in presence of Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and top officials of NHPC.

This is the second power project on river Jhelum in Uri area in Baramulla district and is located downstream of 480-MW Uri-I project, which is already operational.

According to sources, 4.23 km head race tunnel carries water from the dam to the powerhouse, which has four units of 60 MW each designed to generate 1,124 million units of electricity in a year.

Modi reportedly also met the Army soldiers at Badami Bagh Cantt in Srinagar. Tight security arrangements were in place ahead of PM’s arrival in Jammu and Kashmir.
