"Wishing my sisters and brothers of Odisha on Utkala Dibasa. My best wishes for Odisha's progress," Modi tweeted.

Odisha Day, also known as Utkala Dibasa, is celebrated on April 1 in the state in the memory of  formation of the state as a separate province on April 1, 1936.

After losing its complete political identity in 1568 following the defeat and demise of the last Hindu King Mukunda Dev, efforts resulted into the formation of a politically separate state under British Rule on a linguistic basis on this day.

The day is celebrated with full zeal in the state. Several cultural programmes take place on this day.
