PM Modi is 24X 7 under SPG protection due to the frequent threat alerts. Over 1,000 commandos remain around him in various layers.

The Special Protection Group (SPG) was formed after the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984. In 1988, by an act of the Parliament, the group was set up to provide proximate security to the Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers and members of their immediate families.

Modi enjoys double the security cover of his predecessor Manmohan Singh in terms of commandos of the elite Special Protection Group (SPG) and vehicles in his cavalcade.

The Prime Minister's cavalcade comprises a dozen odd vehicles, including two armoured BMW series 7 sedans, six BMW X3 and a Mercedes Benz ambulance. A Tata Safari jammer also accompany the PM's convoy, besides a few more escort vehicles.

Modi travels in a BMW 7 high-security vehicle specially designed and encrypted with bulletproof cover. Two dummy cars are also in the cavalcade, to put off an intended attacker.

Groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM), Hizbul Mujahideen, Tahrik-e-Taliban Pakistan and Indian Mujahideen (IM) have issued several statements threatening to attack PM Modi.

When the Prime Minister is inside his 7 Race Course Road official residence in central Delhi, over 500 SPG commandos are positioned in and around the complex.

Besides, a jammer, an ambulance and Delhi Police Gypsies travel ahead and behind Modi's cavalcade.
