"Spoke to Bihar CM Nitish Kumar ji on situation arising due to storms in various parts of the state. Assured all assistance from Centre," Modi tweeted.

Also, Home Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to visit Bihar to take stock of the situation.

At least 32 people have been killed and around 100 injured on Tuesday night when nor'wester ravaged several districts,  destroying thousands of huts and standing crops.

Nitish Kumar has announced compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of those killed.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has also expressed deep anguish over the havoc caused by the cyclonic storm in Bihar. She asked the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee and the frontal organisations of the party to do everything possible to provide immediate relief and succour to the affected people.

Principal Secretary to Bihar Disaster Management Department Vyasji on Wednesday said the maximum number of 25 deaths were reported from Purnia district, while six have died in Madhepura and one in Madhubani.
