The visit "reflects the importance attached by India to the bilateral relationship", said a Ministry of External Affairs statement.

"The visit is expected to further expand the cordial and cooperative relationship between the two countries and strengthen the ties of friendship and trust between India and Bangladesh," it added.

During the visit, Modi will hold discussions with Hasina. His programme will also include a call on President Mohammed Abdul Hamid, the statement said.

The statement came hours after Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pankaj Saran joined a meeting with Bangladesh officials at the Foreign Ministry to finalise the protocols and other issues related to the visit.
