Interacting with 64 trainees of the Indian Foreign Service who called on him here, PM Modi also asked them to work for enhancing the country's trade, investments and technology ties.

"Sharing his thoughts, the Prime Minister encouraged the young Officers to work towards fostering closer relations between India and the outside world; developing deeper understanding of the country of their posting," a PMO statement said.

He also asked them to link the Indian states with the outside world in the spirit of cooperative federalism and promote greater people-to-people and cultural contacts and strengthening trade, investments and technology ties, it added.

The young IFS officers were also advised to accord greater attention to secure the interests and look after the welfare of the Indians abroad.
