"Tributes to our inspiration, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his birth anniversary. His contribution to our Nation is invaluable,” said Modi on micro-blogging site Twitter.

“Let us devote ourselves to fulfilling Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee's ideals,” he added

“If there was something that mattered most to Dr. Mookerjee it was serving the people. He always spoke about education for the youth.
Let us devote ourselves to fulfilling Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee's ideals," he said.

Mookerjee served as Minister for Industry and Supply in former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru's Cabinet. After falling out with Nehru, Mookerjee quit the Indian National Congress and founded the nationalist Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951.

Along with Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Mookerjee is considered the godfather of Hindu nationalism in India, especially the Hindutva movement. Though Mookerjee was not associated with the RSS, he is widely revered by members and supporters of RSS and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
