New Delhi: Given the role of roads in the socio-economic development of the nation, centre is planning to revive National Highways Development Project (NHDP).

During the Parliamentary Advisory Committee meeting on Saturday, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister C P Joshi said, “Prime Minister has set a target to construct 20 kilometers of National Highways every day.”

In order to meet the target, the ministry has decided to construct 7300 km of national highways per year.

Construction projects under NHPD will be awarded on the basis of Built Operate and Transfer (BOT) under the Public Private Partnership.  

Several decisions including bringing transparency in allocation of major road projects, improving the situation of toll booths on national highways and road safety concerns were also taken up in the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by the Tusharbhai Chaudhary, MoS, Surface Transport and other senior officials of the ministry.
