New Delhi (JPN/Bureau): Four months and one work-less Parliament session later, Centre may have decided to yield to Opposition pressure on formation of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on 2G spectrum allocation scam. According to highly placed sources, PM Manmohan Singh will announce the decision on February 22 on the floor of Lok Sabha.

The JPC will be formed without any discussion on the issue in the Parliament, as was the wish of the government. BJP-led opposition had rejected this option.

That put the onus of running Budget session smoothly on the shoulders of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. He held a meeting with Lok Sabha opposition leader Sushma Swaraj and Rajya Sabha opposition leader Arun Jaitely on Wednesday.

Sources have revealed, in a compromise, the government agreed to not put condition of discussion on formation of JPC and the opposition dropped its demand of including issues of Adarsh land scam and Commonwealth Games scam in the ambit of JPC.

PM will now announce the JPC after the President’s address on Feb 21. He is likely to say that the government had taken action to tackle corruption cases but since the MPs were adamant on a JPC, it had decided to accept the demand.
