Kolkata: The initiative by Congress to field Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to jointly campaign with Trinamool in West Bengal Assembly polls is being seen as a significant move towards strengthening the Congress-Trinamool alliance.

Ahead of his proposed visit on April 20, Prime Minister has handed the responsibility of selecting the campaign venue to the Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee.

Congress has been keen for a joint campaign with Trinamool to cash in on Mamata's popularity. It is for this reason that party wants the PM to address the joint rally with the Railway Minister in the third phase of campaigning in West Bengal. The move is expected to further reinforce the understanding between the two parties.

The Congress leaders are not ready to miss any opportunity to boost the Congress-Trinamool alliance. Recently, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had said, “Mamata is the head of alliance and we wish to bring political change in Bengal through Congress-Trinamool alliance.”
