Patna: Thirty-five persons, including 20 women have been arrested from a Bihar village on Saturday on charges of burning village head’s husband over a land dispute, the police said.

Jainandan Mandal, husband of Kishanpur Baluwa village head Chimo Devi, was first beaten up and then thrown into his brick kiln at Kurkron village in Purnia district, located around 350 km away from Patna.

"Police have arrested 35 people in connection with the murder," Purnia Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar said.

The officer said more people were expected to be arrested in connection with the case. According to the police, hundreds of tribals armed with bows and arrows attacked Mandal's brick kiln over an old land dispute.

"Mandal fired from his rifle to disperse the attackers but it angered them further. He was caught, thrashed and burnt alive," the police official said.
