Patna: The Bihar Police on Friday resorted to lathicharge on mediapersons outside the Vidhan Sabha building, leaving several of them injured. The trouble erupted when a section of mediapersons crossed the portico of the House to cover few ministers and MLAs.

Policemen tried to stop camerapersons from filming the ministers and MLAs but it soon turned into a scuffle. While police stated that mediapersons were directed not to cross a given point, journalists alleged that they were legally authorised to cross it and scale up on the staircase for taking bites of the ministers and MLAs.

As the situation spiraled out of control, top police officials rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control.

If scribes are to be believed, police action was ‘unfair’ as the Vidhan Sabha had already issued identity cards to them for the coverage of the ongoing session of the state Assembly.

Expressing anguish over the attack, journalists sat on dharna outside the House demanding immediate action against cops.
