Malkangiri(Orissa),Feb 04 (Agencies):Ganja plants valued at over Rs five crore in the international market was destroyed by the police in Orissa's Malkangiri District on Saturday.police said.

The plants grown over five acres of forest land in Jaramba and Jaraguda gram panchayats had gained substantial height and had borne fruits, superintendent of police Anirudha Singh said.
On a tip off, police raided the area and felled plants numbering over five lakh before setting them on fire.
However,no one was arrested in this connection as no claimant came forward because of the plants being grown on government land, he said.
As the area is inaccessible, ganja mafias from Tamil Nadu, Kerala,Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka make periodic visit to supply seeds to local tribals to grow the plants.
The tribals keep a watch on the plants and in return get money towards their wages, he said.
