Madhepura: Police on Sunday fired in the air to disperse a mob in Pania village in Bihar's Madhepura district where they had gone to arrest a criminal, police said.

A police team headed by Chausa police station's Station House Officer (SHO) Prashant Mishra was attacked by a mob with sticks and other blunt objects prompting the cops to fire three rounds in the air to disperse the attackers who were supporters of notorious criminal Shahjahan, the SHO said.

There was no casualty or injury to anyone, he said. The police later chased the criminal and arrested him and seized a double barrel gun, 12 live ammunition and five used ammunition from him, he said.

Shahjahan was wanted in a dozen cases of murder, loot and other offences, he added.
