Chhattisgarh, Jan 11 (JNN): An encounter between police and the Maoists erupted in Bastar region of Bijapur on Tuesday, TV news reports suggest.

The gunfight has trapped nearly 40 police personnel.

Heavy firing was reported and reinforcements were reportedly being rushed to the site. Details about t the incident are awaited.

Meanwhile three Orissa government employees got injured in a landmine blast triggered by the Maoists as their jeep was passing through Jogipalur in Koraput district today.
The blast occurred near Narayanpatna, about 75 km from here, when the government jeep carrying two officials of the state Agriculture department was passing that way, they said.
   
The driver of the jeep was seriously injured and has been admitted to a hospital at Koraput. Two other officials also sustained injuries.
    
Police force has rushed to the spot and investigations are on, they said.
