BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh said the judgement is a slap on the face of those who were trying to protect a terrorist. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut too favoured the ruling and said the Apex Court has showed that justice shall always prevail.

While Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said, “My position is that death penalty is wrong in principle and practice.”

“Those supporting Yakub Memon are wrong and want to divide society,” were the words of  Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan over Yakub's execution.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said it is a verdict delivered by the SC and should be respected.

BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain was also in support for the death penalty. He said, “Law took its course. Justice was delayed but not denied.”

Another BJP leader Kirit Somaiya too supported the Apex Court's ruling to hang Yakub as he said, “Democracy is alive. The SC upheld its duty.”

Another Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, who was not in support of Yakub's execution, said, “Which terrorist will get deterred by death penalties? We as a democratic and civilized nation must abolish this punishment.”

Also, CPI leader D Raja said time has come for India when we should say an emphatic no to capital punishment.

Memon was hanged after several of his court appeals and clemency petitions were rejected by various courts.
