Xi was received by Gujarat Governor OP Kohli, Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and her cabinet colleagues at Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhai Patel International Airport at around 3 pm.


President Jinping, his wife and his entourage were given a traditional welcome along with a guard of honour. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold talks with Chinese President where trade and investment are likely to top the agenda of talks between both the leaders.


However it is also expected that both sides will sign three memoranda of understanding (MoUs). Of the three, two are for relations between Guangdong and Gujarat and Guangzhou and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the third MoU is related to cooperation in the industrial sector.


While Xi was quoted saying, ‘China is ready to contribute to India's development with its rich experience in infrastructure building and manufacturing and Indian IT, pharma companies are welcome to seek business opportunities in the Chinese market.


He further said India under the new government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to building a strong and modern ‘Shreshtha Bharat’, and India and China need to connect their development strategies closely and jointly pursue their common dream of national strength and prosperity.


Xi expressed hope to an in-depth exchange of views with Indian leaders on our bilateral relations during the visit and to injecting new vitality to our strategic and cooperative partnership for peace and prosperity’
