Patiala: Pop singer Daler Mehndi appeared before a local court here on Monday for his alleged involvement in the 2004 human trafficking case.The next date of hearing in the case is on April 7.

The case pertains to 2003, when the Patiala police had registered a case against Daler and his brother Shamsher Mehndi under various sections of Indian Penal Code and the Indian Passport Act at Sadar police station here on the complaint of Bakhshish Singh of Balbera village and 24 other complainants. A chargesheet was subsequently filed in 2007.

The complainants had alleged that the Mehndi brothers took money from them after promising to take them abroad as their team members and then leave them there. They had claimed that they paid more than Rs 1 crore but were neither taken on foreign trips nor they got back their money.

Shamsher was arrested in Patiala on October 5, 2003 after the registration of case in October and remained in judicial custody for many days before getting bail. Daler was arrested in Delhi on December 20 and released on bail by a Patiala court 10 days later.
