Rudraprayag: After a gap of six months, portals of famous Himalayan shrine of Kedarnath would be opened for pilgrims on April 28.

While the portals of another famous Himalayan shrine of Badrinath would be opened for pilgrims on April 29, the portals of two other shrines of Gangotri and Yamunotri would be opened on April 24 on the occasion of Akshya Tritiya.
 
The mahurat for opening portals of the shrines was decided by the religious officials of the temples on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivrati on Monday.

According to the mahurat, the Kedarnath temple would be opened on April 28 at 7 am in the morning after it remained closed for nearly six months during winters as the area remain snow-bound during the period.

On April 24, special pooja would be performed and on next day, on April 25, ‘baba ki doli’ will start from Omkareshwar Temple. On April 26, it will head towards Gaurikund and on April 27, the doli will finally reach Kedarnath.

The Chardhams comprising the shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri nestling in dizzying heights of Garhwal Himalayas are opened for pilgrims in April-May every year.

The annual Chardham yatra is considered as the backbone of the thriving religious tourism in the state that attracts nearly 15-16 lakh pilgrims every year from India and abroad.
