Haridwar: After completion of the assembly polls in a peaceful manner, the police administration has decided to tackle the problem of mining mafia confronting the state. It has also begun to formulate a new strategy in this regard.

According to the new plan, the police with the help of district administration officials will raid all the places where illegal mining is being carried out. The stone crushers that are involved in the illegal stone mining will also be sealed. Besides, an extra tax would be levied on the tractors and trolleys.

Illegal mining in the state is being carried out in areas like Ranipur, Dhanori, Ratmau, Solani and Pathri. The illegal mining carried out in many river banks has increased the risk of floods in those areas. At the same time, the illegal trade is also affecting the state exchequer.

Notably, due to the assembly elections the police administration had failed to take action against the illegal miners. Now when the elections are over, the police administration has decided to check this menace.

For the purpose it has made a detailed programme. This time the police will also try to break the network of the mafias.
