Srinagar: In a shocking incident reflecting blatant abuse of political power, Jammu and Kashmir’s Minister of State for Home Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo allegedly slapped a senior government official in full public view on Thursday for being late.

According to reports, Riyaz Ahmed Choudhary, who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kishtwar Development Authority was slapped thrice by the minister for arriving a few minutes late for a meeting. The incident happened just hours before Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's visit to the area.

Reports said that Kitchloo, who is also a local MLA, along with some National Conference workers arrived at the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) and asked for Ahmed who was not present there as he was making arrangements for Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's visit.

Choudhary alleged that he was slapped thrice as he was late by about 'three minutes'

Not only the minister slapped the official but also allowed his aides to beat him up for arriving a few minutes late for the meeting. "When he slapped me for the third time, I reisisted. Then his men started beating me up," Ahmed was quoted as saying.

"I have formally lodged a complaint with the police against the minister and his supporters,'' Ahmed told The Indian Express over phone.

Kichloo, son of former minister from the Kishtwar, was inducted as MoS Home by Omar in the January 2013 reshuffle in the Cabinet.

He replaced Omar’s trusted lieutenant Nasir Sogami who remained MoS Home for more than three years.

J&K's incident brought back the memories of assault of a police officer by Maharashtra MLAs in state Assembly premises.
