Itanagar: Jarbom Gamlin was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh here on Thursday evening.

Former Power Minister of Arunachal Jarbom Gamlin will take over the reins of the state after the death of incumbent Dorjee Khandu in a helicopter crash.

Gamlin, who is believed to have been close to Khandu, was chosen after the reports earlier said Public Works Department and Urban Development Minister Nabam Tuki was likely to be the frontrunner for the CM's seat.

Meanwhile, deceased Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu’s body was recovered by the Army on Thursday morning.

Khandu was declared dead on Wednesday after the wreckage of his helicopter that crashed on Saturday was found in the remote hills of Luguthang, near the Indo-China border at an elevation of over 4,000 metres.

“The death of Arunachal Chief Minister has been confirmed. The Army recovered the CM’s body along with four others from Keyla. The bodies were brought to Luguthang village by land route,” said Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in New Delhi.

Khandu’s body was airlifted to Raj Bhawan here after a post-mortem examination was conducted in Tawang.

The CM’s body will be kept at his official bungalow in Itanagar for people to pay their last respects. His last rites will be performed at his native village - Gyangkhar - in Tawang.
